ASSESSMENT:
- Currently, the site is utilizing a template that is modern, but lacking the warmth and care that is needed to convey the services offered to victims that have experienced extreme trauma.
- The typography styles throughout the site also does not work for hierarchal purposes—as hierarchy helps the visitor to navigate through large amounts of text to determine which information is most important or where to start.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Overall, the Maui Fire Response website design is clean and closely adheres to the template design. However, when communicating to the victims of the Maui wild fire, the design is not warm and compassionate for the target audience. It also does not align with DOH endeavors of being an agency that cares for the well-being of the people of Hawai‘i. Using photos of volunteers and workers can be helpful to show aloha and care and can soften the look. Including tasteful photos of Maui can also show location.
- Removing all-caps in headers can reduce the “shouting effect” and changing typeface from sans serif to serif can help as well.
